Cyber Literacy 1
Cyber Literacy provides high school students with an introduction to cyber engineering and introductory cybersecurity topics. Using a robotics platform as the textbook, students will take a variety of deep dives into cybersecurity relevant real-world topics such as programming, electricity and circuits, sensors and autonomy, current events, and what it means to be a cyber citizen in today’s evolving digital world.
The robotics platforms that are supported in the Cyber Literacy course include the following Parallax devices: the BoeBot, ShieldBot with Arduino, and cyber:bot with micro:bit.
The electricity module engages students by discussing the history of electricity while also challenging them with interactive lab activities that practice what they’ve learned. The practical lab experiences include building and testing a variety of circuits and electrical theories, including: Parallax Boe-Bot, Parallax Shieldbot with Arduino, and Parallax cyber:bot with micro:bit.
Grades Levels: 9, 10, 11
The robotics module makes use of a physical computing platform to engage students in programming while investigating the impacts of technology and its uses. Students create, modify, and troubleshoot increasingly challenging activities as they learn a certain programming language. Cyber Literacy offers three different robotics platform options: Parallax Boe-Bot, Parallax Shieldbot with Arduino, and Parallax cyber:bot with micro:bit.
Grades Levels: 9, 10, 11
Students are encouraged to consider the ethical responsibilities of cyber technologies, careers, and societal impact. The Liberal Arts content dives into how technology has influenced society and the rights and responsibilities every person has as a citizen of both a physical and digital world.
